Meet Very Small Bunny

I went to the local animal rescue shelter yesterday to get a new companion for Lily. They only had two castrated male rabbits to choose from - "Herman", a rather large looking wild-rabbit-brown, who the helper said didn't get along too well with the other rabbits, and a small fellow, white with black ears and markings, who seemed pretty well-adjusted and bouncy. So, this is our new rabbit:

He's tiny at the moment - about half the size of Lily, so I'm hoping he'll grow. The shelter helper reckoned he's 12 to 18 months old, but I don't believe he's even a year old yet, at that size. Even for a dwarf he's just too small to be much older.

I decided to get Otto involved in the naming process this time, since he always called Pepper "Schnuffi" because he didn't like the name Pepper. He finally came up with the name "Pippin", so Pippin it is. Good for shortening to Pip, and adapting to the apt "Pipsqueak". Other nickname already is "Squiff-Ear" because his right ear has a tendency to flop. His ears are Huge. He really needs to grow into those ears.

He has to spend the next two weeks in quarantine, since he was only castrated a couple of weeks ago. I have to keep him separate for a while anyway, to give Lily and him a chance to get used to each other. Lily's reaction has been... not overwhelmed. Slightly aggressive - she keeps try to cuff him through the bars of the cage, but at the same time, she seems interested - she's barely left the terrace, or gone more than a yard away from the cage since she first saw him. Most of the time she lies in front of it:

Hopefully they'll settle down a bit quicker than she and Pepper did.

The cats, as usual, are singularly uninterested...
